ADAPTED KNOWHOW

The objective is to provide the designers of analytical and modelling tools with the means to optimise their products and reduce their environmental impact. In the area of Transport, LMFA has expertise in turbomachines, noise reduction and new automobile motorisations. Research on the environment focuses on atmospheric pollution, hydraulics and industrial risks. Its competences in the sector of energy include the optimisation of processes, diphasic flows, hydraulic turbines, and new sources of energy.

  • 2 silent aero-acoustic wind tunnels linked to a large anechoic chamber (10 x 8 x 8 m3):  subsonic (0 - 160 m/s, 15 kg/s, 350 kW) / supersonic (M < 1.7 , 1 kg/s, 450 kW)
  • ECL-B1 test bench (1000 KW) for centrifugal compressors
  • ECL-B2 test bench (2000 KW) for multi-stage axial compressors
  • ECL-B3 test bench (3000 KW) for small scale wind tunnel tests  (Equipex PHARE)
  • Large scale wind tunnel for atmospheric diffusion

REPUTATION & DISTINCTIONS

LMFA’s competences have led it to becoming a member of the Institut Carnot (Ingénierie@Lyon), laboratories of excellence (▪ CELyA Lyon Acoustics Centre ▪ iMUST Institute for Multiscale Sciences and Technologies ▪ IMU Smart Urban Worlds), and joint laboratories in France (OpenLab PSA Peugeot Citroën "Vibro-Acoustic-Tribology@Lyon"), and to joining international partnerships with International Associated Laboratories (LIA 2MCSI with Beijing in China, LIA Elyt with Tohoku in Japan). It is involved in several French facilities of excellence (▪ PHARE ▪ Equip@meso ▪ Manutech) and participates in many national and European projects (ANR projects ▪ FUI projects labelled by the clusters LUTB and Axelera ▪ the European projects IDEALVENT, ECOQUEST, ORINOCCO, NEXTMUSE, ARISE). An industrial chair of aeroacoustics ADOPSYS (Aeroacoustics of Ducted and Open-rotor Propulsion SYStems) continues strong collaboration between Snecma (Safran) and the Acoustics Centre of the LMFA (Labex CeLyA), in collaboration with the LVA (Vibrations and Acoustics Laboratory, INSA de Lyon) and MicrodB (VibraTec group). It supervises the joint laboratory P3A Array Processing for Aeroacoustics, facilitating the transfer of advances made in public research to industry.

The laboratory’s national and international reputation has won it acknowledgement and regular distinctions. It is involved in the organisation of highly reputed conferences such as FED-ASME 2014, CFM 2015, etc.
