Ingénierie@Lyon is a major project subject to the State-Region Contract Plan (CPER) 2007-2014. It has received a favourable evaluation from the Scientific, Technical and Pedagogic Mission (MSTP), the General Directorate of Research and Innovation (DGRI) and the Rhone Alpes Region.

In 2006, the Ecole Centrale de Lyon, the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon, the Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and the CNRS adopted a joint policy to structure engineering  by founding the INGENIERIE@LYON project, which was labelled institut Carnot * in 2007.
