Specialised in thermal and energy engineering, CETHIL is one of the only laboratories in the world that deals continuously with such a wide range of scales of length and temperatures: from nanostructures to buildings, and from liquid helium to combustion and ice slurry.
The applications of the varied works performed by the research teams focus on sectors such as electronics, nuclear engineering, aeronautics and aerospace, automobiles, buildings and renewable energies.

Its expertise in modelling, the experimental characterisation of heat transfers and energy optimisation, and reducing consumption, allow the teams to respond to the following problems:
Simulation software
COMSOL, StarCCM+, EES, TRNSYS and dynamic and static thermal simulation software, adapted to multiphysics problems, energy systems and buildings.
Leading edge facilities
Platforms
CETHIL’s members participate in many national and international projects:
• Institut Carnot: Ingénierie@Lyon
• Labex: Smart Cities, Equipex: SISE MANUTECH and IDEX: IDEEL
• FUI ▪ FONDATHERM – high energy efficiency buildings ▪ OSOTHO - optimisation and simulation of the thermal treatment of tools ▪ CLIMAIRIS – bus air conditioning
