ADAPTED KNOWHOW

The development and behavior of systems in operation, cases of extreme stress and multi-physical coupling are the main directions of research at LaMCoS. Numerical models and specific experimental resources give the laboratory the means to offer industry the tools capable of simulating the lifecycle of a component or system, predicting and controlling the dynamic behavior of structures and rotating machines, analyzing dry and lubricated contacts and interfaces, and studying the response of bodies in contact to tribological stresses.

• Models to predict the behaviour of interfaces
• Analyses and modelling of lubricated contacts
• Behaviour of mechanical systems with lubricated contacts
• Dynamic behaviour of structures and rotating machines
• Coupled numerical and experimental approaches in mechanics
• Thermo-electro-mechanical characterisation of components and structures
• Dynamic characterisations
• Advanced numerical methods

TECHNICAL RESOURCES

Platforms
• PEDEBA simulator: a highly rigid friction simulator. Operation in vacuum and ambient atmospheres, from – 150° to + 150°C
• Tribogyr test machine: tribometer for the full-scale study of lubricated and non lubricated contacts, with complex geometries and kinematics.
• Rotating machines for controlling environmental risks (Equipex PHARE)
• Study of accelerated ageing of solar photovoltaic and thermal components and systems (Equipex DURASOL).

Leading edge equipment:
• Electronic and photonic microscopy, Interferometry, Spectrometry, Densimeters, Rheometers, Laser vibrometer
• Various tribometers (from -150°C to 700°C, linear velocity <10m.s-1),
• Controlled thermal and hydrometric chambers, cleanroom
• Moving coil vibrators up to 6,700N

REPUTATION & DISTINCTIONS

Crossing the multi-thematic and multidisciplinary competences at LaMCoS has led to it holding three industrial chairs (the Areva-Safran Chair, the SKF Chair and the Safran Chair), being a member of the Institut Carnot, two laboratories of excellence (Labex Imust, Labex Manutech-Size) and joint laboratories (TRANSMECA Cetim and OpenLab PSA), being involved in facilities of excellence (Equipex Phare and Durasol) and participating in many national and European projects (ANR IRINA Projects, Rupxcube, the European FibreMap project, Phedyma and so forth).
The laboratory’s national and international reputation has led it to organize highly reputed congresses (XFEm 2013, Int. Gear Conf. 2014, French Mechanics Congress 2015, Leeds-Lyon 2015, etc.), and actively participate in the peer reviews of major journals.
This scientific excellence is recognized and distinguished for our young researchers (Best Industrial PhD Thesis CSMA in 2011, the EADS Foundation Prize for the best PhD thesis in “Engineering Sciences” in 2012) as much as for our permanent researchers (Knight of the National Order of Merit, CNRS Bronze Medal 2011, junior member of the University Institute of France in 2011, Doctor Honoris Causa of several universities, etc).
